Description

RARE "Fuji" RACE TICKET AND ATTRACTIVE HOLDER. ALONSO WINS FOR RENAULT IN JAPAN. HAMILTON LEADS CHAMPIONSHIP, WINS HIS FIRST WORLD TITLE LATER. The Japanese Grand Prix was moved from Suzuka to Fuji Speedway (Toyota's circuit) for 2007 at the foot of Mt. Fuji and was won by Lewis Hamilton in his rookie year. Lewis again was leading the championship coming into the 2008 race (Round 16/18) with Felipe Massa of Ferrari his main rival. For the second year running Hamilton took pole position but race day was to prove disappointing. At the start he was jumped by Raikkonen's Ferrari and impetuously tried to take the lead back forcing others to go wide including the Ferraris. This allowed Alonso (now back at Renault) and Kubica (BMW) to get though to lead. Hamilton then clashed with title rival Massa on lap 2 and both were given penalties which limited their ability to score points. Alonso's late surge in the season (he'd won the previous race, the first night race, in Singapore) continued with the race victory with Kubica second. In the end, Hamilton only lost a few points versus Massa and would still leave Japan with a 5 point championship advantage with two races to go. It was to be a totally different story in China and Brazil from 2007 for Lewis as he won in China and in spite of Massa winning his home grand prix in Brazil, it was Massa's turn to suffer from last minute drama as Hamilton on the very last corner got the P5 he needed to stay ahead of Massa and took the championship by one point. The Race Programme is listed separately. After 2008 the Japanese Grand Prix would revert to Suzuka. Race Podium: Fernando Alonso 1st, Robert Kubica 2nd, Kimi Raikkonen 3rd.
