Description

1989 F1 TITLE DECIDER. RARE "SENNA TICKET" VERY GOOD CONDITION. One of the most controversial races in F1 history at the height of the Senna vs Prost rivalry . Senna needed to win the race to keep his title hopes alive. He was on pole by a massive 1.7 seconds after qualifying but in the actual race Prost got ahead at the start. Senna was in hot pursuit and with just 6 laps to go Senna went for the inside at the chicane. Prost appeared to turn early/closed the door and the two cars famously collided and were to slide off the track into the safety area. Prost walks away but Senna looks to rejoin the race and after changing his damaged nose cone and with just a few laps left Senna overtakes new race leader Nannini to take the chequered flag. The drama didn't end happily for Senna with the stewards disqualifying Senna for not regaining the circuit properly. T he disqualification therefore handed Prost the title leaving McLaren to appeal for Senna and against Prost. Senna was subsequently fined and treated in his words "like a criminal" by the FIA. This was the race that set the bitter tone for the Senna vs Prost rivalry of the next few season with Senna exacting revenge in 1990. A big part of the Senna movie focuses on this race and the perceived injustice meted out by Jean-Marie Balestre and the FIA. A piece of F1 history. 1989 Programme is listed separately as is the excellent Japanese photographic Autosport commemorative book/magazine of the race. Race Podium: Alessandro Nannini 1st, Riccardo Patrese 2nd, Thierry Boutsen 3rd. Postage by airmail is now possible to most countries again.
