Description

FAMOUS SHOCK FERRARI WIN. 1988 TICKET IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. "THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY". THE STORY OF 1988 WAS THE ALL-CONQUERING McLAREN HONDA MP4/4 WHICH WITH SENNA AND PROST AS DRIVERS TOOK 15/16 RACE WINS. MONZA WAS THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY TO PREVENT McLAREN FROM ACHIEVING A SEASON CLEAN SWEEP. Qualifying had been normal with Senna on pole (he was on pole 13 times out of 16 in '88). After winning his seventh race of the season at Belgium in the previous race, victory for Senna in the race would have pretty much guaranteed Senna the title especially as Prost had to drop out at two-thirds distance with engine failure. Senna led but then with just two laps left, the sporting gods intervened and Senna was forced out following a mistake by backmarker Jean-Louis Schlesser (only racing for Williams due to an illness for Mansell) and the Ferraris of Berger and Alboreto went through to take a 1-2 finish much to the delight of the Italian Ferrari "tifosi" with the sporting gods seeming to intervene to honour the late Enzo Ferrari who had died just a few weeks before the race. Race Podium: Berger 1st, Alboreto 2nd, Cheever 3rd. Final 1988 Championship standings 1st Senna 90 points, 2nd Prost 87 points, 3rd Berger 41 points. Postage by airmail is now possible to most countries again. North America, Australasia, Europe, and the UK are all generally fine. Brazil and Italy are now possible again.
